Urban Design Scheme for the Centre of Abbeville (Somme)
This scheme was presented to the Maire of Abbeville, an important town in the Somme department of Picardy, as a possible solution to the perennial problems of environmental degradation and of public transport inefficiency caused to a large extent by the uncontrolled and unplanned dominance by the private motor car of the town centre.
The proposals are not innovative, but they present a plan carefully drawn up on the basis of a thorough analysis and understanding of the problems, and a profound appreciation of the opportunities as observed and noted both in plan and during the course of the extensive gathering of data on the ground.
