(For the time being I have suspended my operation in the UK to concentrate on projects in France).
Much of my work in the UK involved repairs, refurbishments, alterations, and conversions of existing buildings.
It is a common paradox that while people will spend considerable time and money cleaning and maintaining their cars on a regular basis, such work to their buildings (whose value is many times greater than that of their cars) is undertaken only intermittently and often under duress. With the passage of time and their use, misuse or neglect, buildings need to be repaired or refurbished and given a new lease of life.
The life span of a car is around 10 years after which it is usually traded in for a more recent and efficient model. The life span of a house usually exceeds the human life span. Therefore it is inevitable that with the passage of time buildings in general and houses in particular have to be adapted to meet the changing needs tastes and circumstances of their occupants.
